One of the fun things about owning a Lifestyle Investment Property (aside from the revenue, the lifestyle, and the street cred’ at your High School Reunion) is giving it an identity.
… for a little bit of anonymity.
… for a little bit of branding and a unique identity. Property Names are great for #hashtagging, website names.
… because spending time at “Clifford Lake House” (named after my dad) is a lot more exciting than spending time at 4062 37 Street.
We try to incorporate a Property Feature into the name, along with a descriptor about the style of home. Does the property have great sunset, or sunrise, views? Is it expansive, or quaint? Is it remote or centrally located?
Our Lifestyle Investment Name History – For us, the “naming thing” started with the family Lifestyle Investment in Mexico: Casa Altria, it was forever known. “Casa” for it’s Mexican location, and “Altria” for … well … the name of the Stock Investment that paid for it all. And although it wasn’t our home, there was something about logging into the Casa Altria Internet that reminded us how the home came to be in the family. A Family Member had done some fork for The Altria Group, and had been paid in stock. Those stocks appreciated nicely, and voila! A new Family Home in Mexico to escape those long Canadian Winters.
For many years, we were quite boring with our Property Names. “Grotto” was located in the “Grotto” sub-development. Others were given the name of the existing condo building. And others were given the name of the street the house was on. Then we got a 2nd home on the same street, and realized our naming skills needed some work.
Over the years, our guests have come to ask for our properties by their name. They would never remember a listing number or address, but they do remember the name that evoked the feeling of the place they called home.
